Friday Five with Dayna Castelli

Stylist

CG: 1.) When did you realize you wanted to work in the beauty industry? Was there something specific that piqued your interest?
DC: My NANY was a hair dresser and always took me into work with her. She always did my hair for me and I always remember feeling so fabulous, I always wanted my hair done and I loooooved doing my dolls hair! As I got older, I always looked at everyone's hair and would do my girlfriends hair for dances or "just because" to make them feel their best. It was not a shock to anyone when I enrolled into hair school!

CG: 2.) What do you specialize in?
DC: I specialize in it all! There is nothing I do not enjoy doing, but my favorite would have to be color. I can help women feel their best by adding color that works with their complexion. In a way, color helps people express themselves! I always say, hair is your number one accessory!

CG: 3.) What is your favorite product Calista Grand carries? Why and how do you like to use it?
DC: I love love love the reclaim spray! This product helps add shine without making it feel greasy and actually penetrates into the hair with helps especially when it is dry, "maturing" or unruly. It is also a great heat protectant!

CG: 4.) What has been your best advice you have ever given or received from someone else?
DC: "You only look your best when you feel your best. Your hair is the first thing everyone sees, so why not put in the few extra minutes....you can do anything for a few minutes!" - My NANY

CG: 5.) Tell us something completely random about yourself that others may not know?
DC: ...I always think that being unhappy doesn't look good on me, so everyday, I think "what would make me smile today?" and head out the door with a positive attitude & a goal to make myself smile. Also, exercise is my sanity and I love being outside!

Friday Five with Aliyah Adorno

Stylist

CG: 1.) When did you realize that you wanted to work in the beauty industry. Was there something specific that piqued your interest?
AA: Probably when I was a child. My mother has been doing hair her whole life so I was around the industry whether I liked it or not. She was my inspiration.

CG: 2.) What do you specialize in?
AA: In all honesty I love every aspect of my profession. It keeps it interesting day in and day out. But if I had to choose, I'd say blowouts, styles and updos. It's crazy how you can beautify someone with what they already have.

CG: 3.) What is your favorite product that Calista Grand carries? Why & how do you like to use it?
AA: I love the Fix 2 hairspray. It's high speed so it sprays into the hair and not just the surface. Although it's a great holding spray it also gives movement. I can use this spray to set, for a long lasting curl or to finish off a beautiful blowout.

CG: 4.) What has been your best advice that you have given or received from someone else?
AA: "If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them."

CG: 5.) Tell us something completely random about yourself that others may not know.
AA: I can squat 215 lbs :)

Unwind with Calista, your one stop shop

As one of the main stomping grounds of Chester County's fabulous folk, Calista Grand strives to be a one stop shop. Whether it's talking to your hairstylist about the best restaurant or bar for that evenings date night, getting some false lashes by our amazing make-up artists to bat across a candle lit table or even picking out a new pair of chandelier earrings to go with your outfit from our beautifully curated boutique section...we've got you covered.

We carry an array of products to not only make you look and feel fabulous, but to keep your CG service looking tip-top for weeks to come. When you walk in through the foyer, you're greeted with that familiar smell of earthy pine needles- yes Frasier Fir is back in stock for the holidays. Gobble them up while you can because the candles and reed diffusers are usually the first to fly off the shelves!
After your service, you can still take home the amazing feeling of "Calista Hair" by stocking up on our wide array of hair products by CALISTA Tools (including our award winning "Perfecter" and ionic hot rollers), Kerastase and Colorproof (all of which are color protecting). Didn't get your hair done? No worries, if you're coming from the relaxing spa area, you can follow a perfect skin routine with Dermed products (specifically chosen for your from your Esthetician) or choose your favorite manicure color from our towering OPI nail bar.

As the holidays are approaching, we've got you covered. A perfect (and muchly appreciated) gift certificate and a piece of jewelry (even offering an array of handmade jewelry designed by yours truly) or luxe bag is the epitome of the perfect gift.

We want to help keep you looking and feeling your very best so pop in, take a look around while you're enjoying some light bites from the Social Lounge (the tasty bar and restaurant in downtown West Chester), a mug of cappuccino or even a glass of wine and unwind. Taking time for yourself is the key to happiness.

"Body Scrub Benefits"

Is this strange warm and cool weather of Autumn leaving your skin just as confused as your closet? Don't even sweat it, after I chatted with Natalie, one of Calista Grand's amazing Massage Therapists, I got the lowdown on how to keep your skin healthy during this inconsistent season.

The answer is simple- exfoliation! When you exfoliate, it removes the dry, dead skin cells so that there is better penetration for your face and body products; this allows the products to be absorbed instead of laying on the surface. Not only used for your beauty purposes, it's very important for the health of your skin to exfoliate so that your body regenerates new cell growth...which in turn minimizes wrinkles (oh yes, I went there because nobody wants wrinkles right?). The massage therapists and estheticians offer body scrub recipes like the Sea Salt Scrub and the Orange Vanilla Scrub, which is finished with a firming moisturizer. These services are essential for improving your body's circulation of blood and lymph to the surface of your skin. Not only does this extra circulation help minimize and fight cellulite, it works double time by improving your skin tone leaving it bright, soft and smooth.

Natalie recommended that using a scrub only once or twice a week is enough to reap some serious benefits. Any more and you could damage the young skin layer under the previously sloughed dead cells. She also stresses that when your skin is extra dry, be cautious so that you don't over scrub.

All of this talk of bright clear skin is making me crave the Orange Vanilla Scrub- a perfect pair to this beautiful early October.

"Cooling off into Autumn: Hair Trends"

Summer has ended, school is back in full swing and the ever anticipated Pumpkin Spice Latte's have arrived at Starbucks...Fall is literally right around the corner! As the seasons start to shift, I feel that your hair should follow suit. No longer can we get away with sun soaked strands as everything around us starts to become richer in color. Blondes are more buttery, brunettes deepen into chocolate shades and reds get their cue from nature- copper to deep crimson. Ask your stylist to tone your summer lightened hair while adding in deeper low lights to create dimension and bring life back into your tresses. The living was so laid back in the summer but that probably created a bit of havoc on your hair, from sun to surf it's imperative to bring moisture back so you can have that silky hair that everyone craves. Kerastase Shine and Moisture treatments are the perfect remedy to add protein and moisture to your hair while keeping the color longer and the frizz at bay. Hello, we all want that right? These luxe treatments are specifically created for you based on your hair-repair needs and they are done right at the shampoo bowl during a fabulous scalp massage.

Besides having freshly colored shiny hair, Autumn is a perfect time to revamp your cut. Whether it's adding long layers or going for the hottest hair trend- The Lob (The long bob i.e. Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Aniston) tell your stylist your needs and what your daily life is like so they can customize a perfect cut (or trim) for you. Your hair is one of your greatest accessories. Whether it is shaved or halfway down your back it's important to keep it healthy and for you to feel confident with your style.
